The Oxford Turkish-English Dictionary and English-Turkish Dictionary have both had great success but, because of their size and cost, they could not satisfactorily meet the demand for a first-class dictionary suitable for school and university pupils. So this abridgement has been prepared, reducing the originals to about one-third of their length
The chief innovation is that the pronunciation of English words is shown in terms of the modern Turkish alphabet rather than by use of phonetic symbols
